Your friends know you and you trust them, however, a therapist can prioritize you and your feelings; a therapist has professional training; a therapist is non-judgemental and has confidentiality and is solely focused on you and your well-being.
Ask yourself if you are comfortable with your therapist. Do you feel you can talk about anything and not be judged? You will have a gut-feeling about your therapist, trust your gut! But know that you are not stuck with the first therapist you try. If it doesn’t seem like the best fit for you, don't be afraid to change therapists.
Therapy takes time, energy and money, so you will want to get the most out of it.
Here are some ways to help you keep on track:
- keep turning up to your sessions
- be open to new ways of looking at things and new ways of thinking of yourself, others and situations
- keep up with your homework!
It's not easy making that first appointment, but once you have, you may wondering what really happens in therapy!
Well, here are some good things to keep in mind.
Each individual session is 50 minutes and the cost per session is $110. Payment is due immediately after the session and via eTransfer only at this time.
I do have a sliding-scale fee option for students and clients with financial hardship. Please connect with me for more information.
Some employee benefit insurance programs cover the costs associated with seeing a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC), however not all do. You will need to check with your particular insurance company and group plan to ensure exactly what type and amount of coverage you have. If your employee benefit insurance plan does cover these services, you will simply need to submit a copy of your receipt to them. If your insurance plan does have counselling coverage but does not acknowledge the professional counselling services of a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor it may be possible to have your employer make a small change to the insurance plan.
